The Italian company De Rosa has unveiled the new edition of their road bike Protos For the occasion, De Rosa has opened the doors of its factory for a rare time to the media. Here is the presentation of this new bike that risks turning many heads The material used in the production of the new Protos is an innovative combination of 4 types of modulus and ultra-high modulus carbon fiber that when merged together result in the creation of CM63 — light, stiff and suitable for professional racers, non-professional competitive athletes and anyone else who has a passion for cycling. The new Protos , along with the SK Pininfarina and the King XS , form a class of bicycles that, through their elegance, style and heritage embody the soul of De Rosa and help elevate the hopes, dreams and aspiration of cyclists who ride them, especially when fitted with mechanical or electronic components by Campagnolo. Ugo De Rosa. The new De Rosa Protos will be available in four color combinations.
Israel Cycling Academy unveiled their new bikes for the forthcoming season at a recent bonding camp in their home country. Their new De Rosa bikes were pride of place during their official team presentation at the Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem and again the following day at a press conference at the Peres Centre for Peace in Tel Aviv. The Israel Cycling Academy has been using Cannondale bikes since the team's inception in , due to their initial links to Peter Sagan, but they approached De Rosa over the summer about a potential switch. The De Rosa Protos will be one of three models that the team will use, with a time trial bike and the aero SK Pininfarina the other two. The Protos is the lightest bike on offer for the team and will be the favoured one for racing. It is decked out in a black paintjob with embedded glitter.

Starting from RRP: 7. After two years of study, the Research and Development department at De Rosa releases the Protos , designed to meet the needs of real bike connoisseur. The frame is made with a carefully developed blend of 4 types of carbon fibre, applied and tested with the objective of obtaining a specific composite, known as CM63 which is composed of high and ultra-high modulus carbon fibres. This all-around frame is suitable for professional cyclists, passionate granfondistas, as well as amateurs. Some complete bicycles may have variable delivery times. The exclusivity of these products means that their construction or finishing is done according to customer requirements and specifications following an order confirmation. Please note delivery times displayed automatically by the system may differ and we advise contacting us by email or phone in order to find out accurate information on availability.
De Rosa himself freely admits the Protos is the most ambitious project the family has ever attempted. The octogenarian remains involved with the business today, and was actually influential in the design of the Protos. Cristiano says the template for the bike was performance-orientated above all else. His goal was to build the best race bike possible, with maximum rigidity. There really is no other frame like it. Hardly surprisingly, De Rosa makes no claims about any aero data. It would be difficult to believe the huge box-section down tube would be overly slick in a wind-tunnel, although the way the fork intersects with the head tube does look pretty sleek.

After three years with Saeco at the beginning of his career, Cunego spent 10 seasons with Lampre before joining Nippo-Vini Fantini for his final four seasons as a professional. As well as providing the drivetrain, braking and controls for Cunego, Campagnolo also provides the Pro Continental team with Campagnolo Shamal Ultra aluminium tubular wheels. Having raced on fluoro-orange De Rosa framesets earlier in his time with Nippo-Vini Fantini, Cunego raced on a bare carbon-finished De Rosa for his final WorldTour race, with white De Rosa decals and a team colour-coordinated model name on the seat tube. IRC tyres have long sponsored the Nippo-Vini Fantini outfit and the team were in the minority at the Tour de Suisse by racing with tubeless, as opposed to tubular, tyres. Interestingly, Cunego also opted to race without a power meter, as he had done for much of his career. In a couple of low-key presentations Italian bike maker DeRosa has just debuted a major overhaul of their premier carbon road race machine — the Protos. The New Protos will take the top spot in their road line-up this year and is being raced by Italian Pro Conti team in a eye-searing orange bike that will also be available to consumers…. After two years of development, the new bike gets a more complicated carbon construction to optimize its stiffness to weight ratio. With the new frame design come some aero optimizations, including a aero foil shaped headtube, a dropped smooth transition from the wide-set fork blades to the downtube, a Kamm tail -style aero seattube with a small cutout for the rear wheel, and slim foil shaped seatstays. The downtube keeps a lot of its girth, but does get a more pronounced, squared-off Kamm tail shape. At the seat cluster transitions get tidied up with smooth shaping from the toptube to the seatstays, a proprietary shaped seatpost, and a hidden internal wedge seatpost clamp.
History and Technology Follow Design. The De Rosa Protos is a creature of design, more than manufacture, which is a good thing. In days of yore, mythical European elves fabricated architecturally significant steel steeds that could only be properly crafted by artisanal techniques handed down through the generations. Or so the legend goes. And for good measure, a unique style rooted in bio-regional culture. How could a structure with the shape of the bicycle possibly flex more in the vertical plane than in the horizontal plane? It cannot, the bicycle must flex more in the lateral plane, because it is long and lean and tall, and will twist but not flex upwards.
