Sicily has been historically a stage location for the Giro d'Italia, most beautiful race on the Pro Tour. Sicily has offered Giro a perfect location, featuring all the specifications that cycling enthusiasts hope for when it comes to stage racing in Italy — varied racing conditions, incredible settings among the ever-changing Italian landscape, but also riding through stunning historical towns and sites. This is what makes Giro special and so incredibly unpredictable from the very beginning and till its end. But if the Sicilian roads are perfect for Giro, they're for sure perfect for us cycling lovers. We've designed this tour so that it reproduces the same varied cycling conditions of the professional race, with unpredictably different riding days, with coastline, rolling hills inland, medium distance to super long climbs.
The second stage of the Tour of Sicily is definitely the most awaited stage, the queen stage with the ascent of His Majesty the Etna , A Muntagna The Mountain, in Sicilian dialect for the natives. With a distance of km and an elevation gain of meters , it will naturally be the most demanding stage of this second edition. The stage includes only one timed section at the end: the famous 17 km long Mareneve climb. More information about the route. After becoming familiar with the territory of the Madonie Park, in the second stage you will go through another territory of rare scenic and natural beauty: The Nebrodi Park. The Nebrodi, together with the Madonie to the west and the Peloritani to the east, make up the Sicilian Apennines.

The Giro has visited Sicily in each of the past two years, with summit finishes atop Mount Etna on each occasion. There were three Sicilian stages at the Giro, with finishes also at Caltagirone and Santa Ninfa. The island hosted stages 4 to 6 of the Giro d'Italia , where Tim Wellens won on a lumpy stage to Caltagirone, Enrico Battaglin in Santa Ninfa and the explosive stage to Mount Etna, where Simon Yates seized the race lead and his teammate Esteban Chaves won the day. While the island will have to wait until next season for the Giro d'Italia to return, the details of the Giro di Sicilia route for were announced, where Mount Etna will be the grand finale of the four-day stage race. The 18th running of the sporadically-held race was last held in , 70 years after its first edition. The April 3 opening stage of the Giro di Sicilia will begin in Catania, where stage 4 of last year's Giro d'Italia started, and travel to Milazzo on a km stage that is almost entirely flat, with the Colle San Rizzo the only classified climb before 10km of flat roads to the finish. The second stage is flat on both ends and hilly in the middle, as the peloton takes on a km stage from Capo d'Orlando to Palermo, heading inland to the Geraci Siculo and Petralia Soprana climbs before descending to the flat finish. Stage 3 is another lumpy visit to the island's inland region, with a twisting, rolling route through small towns riddled with narrow, cobbled passages.
