Visiting Umbria, one should try to take part in one or more of the typical Umbria events that take place every year around the same time in the same places. The festivals and sagra's in small Umbrian towns are the place to go if you like to participate in or observe the real Italian village life. Usually there is excellent food, music, dancing and a lot of happy people enjoying an evening in the open air. There are quite a few larger events of which some are world famous, like Umbria Jazz in Perugia and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto. These and also the lesser known are surely worth a visit when you are in the area. Apart from these big events, there are many local sagra's and festivals throughout the year, with food, music and town square dancing.

I will have a look at the posters around the traps and see if any are about Spoleto way. I did check several web sites for events, and it looks like we are missing the best ones.

October Festivals and Events in Italy
By Martha Bakerjian. A trip to Italy is something to be cherished in any month of the year. The month of October, which used to be considered "shoulder season," is now increasingly popular with travelers, who come for cooler weather and plenty of festive events celebrating the fall harvest season. With a wealth of activities happening throughout the month and both coastal towns and metropolitan cities like Rome awash in the brightly-colored leaves of autumn, Italy in October is a truly remarkable thing to experience. During October, you'll find Italian food festivals featuring mushrooms, chestnuts, chocolates, and truffles, which pair well with wine harvest events happening across the country. You can also attend a screening at a film festival in Rome or sit by the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and watch a boat race in Trieste.
Summer is the season of food for the region, thanks to many events that are involving the cities and the villages of the area. In Umbria there are a lot of Summer events called "sagre". This word means "event dedicated to food", expecially to traditional dishes that are typical of the region or of its different areas. Also the smaller villages are working to create events and feasts, in a spirit of collaboration and harmony. The "Sagre" Events are a perfect example of communities that work together to create something of beautiful for theirselves and for the visitors.

Norcia, one of the most beautiful hamlets of Italy, is known worldwide for its excellent gastronomy. Every year in February and March, it hosts a superb food fair entirely dedicated to the black truffle. It is a good moment to admire the town while walking through the stalls, which offer Umbrian specialties such as cheeses, hams and obviously, a lot of truffles. Tartufo nero di Norcia. From the end of June to mid-July, Spoleto turns into a big party thanks to the Spoleto Festival, an internationally renowned event dedicated to art, theatre, ballet, opera, movies and music. The festival takes place in several squares around the old city centre.
