We Want Roses Too aims to portray the deep change brought on by the sexual revolution and the feminist movement in Italy during the s and s. The film looks again at recent events from a female point of view, through the first-hand accounts provided by the diaries of three women. Rather than focus on the alleged objectivity of facts, the film gives space to a chorus of voices that narrate those events in first person, visually supported by archival footage of the period, drawn from the most varied sources - institutional, public, militant and private. Anita, Teresa and Valentina come from different Italian regions and different social backgrounds, but share the same feelings: they no longer feel part of a society based on the patriarchal family, on the power of "husbands" and on the supremacy of males, which requires them to be efficient mothers, obedient wives and virtuous daughters. To bring to life the events described in the three women's diaries, I use archival material, including photos, family film footage, romantic photo novels, TV reports and debates, independent and experimental films, private and militant film footage, advertising, music and animation, both from the period and made especially for the film.

Using only a compilation of family home movies, the film reconstructs the tragic life of director Alina Marazzi's mother, Luisa Marazzi Hoepli, resulting in a strikingly intimate biography told through Marazzi's compassionate mediation. My mother was born in and died in , when I was 7 years old. This closet contained old film boxes, amateur 16mm films that my grandfather shot between and the 70s. As if by magic that misterious and unknown person projected on the screen in front of me seemed alive. In just a second I was thrown back to the past, in the time when my mother lived. My mother, whom I had known very little and forgotten for the most. The film starts with the sound recording of a 45 rpm record with the real voice of my mother talking to me; it goes on interweaving readings of letters and private journals written by my mother and that of medical reports from psychiatric hospitals where my mother spent several periods.
