But did you ever stop to think that maybe those people, the ones running about town in the bitter cold of early February emptying their wallets for someone who could very well be their enemy by the time the sun shows its face again, are themselves missing out on something you enjoy everyday? That is, being beholden to no one but yourself?
It also made me realise the difference between love and infatuation. It shows you that being single is actually a blessing in disguise. It's such a heartbreaking but incredibly realistic portrayal of a relationship unraveling. I totally empathised with the main character as he flung himself around in self-indulgent despair until he just worked through it. I watched it before bed every night for a week as therapy after my last breakup — it reminded me I could be my own person again and move on. It's a fantastic movie, and definitely one of my all-time favourites. It leaves behind the stereotypes that most movies perpetuate.
